The MyBrain15 was established to develop a talent pool of high-level intellectuals to spur the growth of research and innovation in the country. The Malaysian government aims to produce a total of 60,000 Malaysian PhD holders under this programme. There are three schemes under this programme:

MyMaster MyPhD Industrial PhD
Objective
Motivate and encourage graduates to pursue their studies at a higher level, and to be a ‘feeder’ to the MyPhD programme. Increase the number of highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals, and promote innovation and creativity in order to generate local economic and industry growth. Promote knowledge sharing between industry and academia to produce highly knowledgeable and competent professionals.
Eligibility criteria
  • Malaysian citizen
  • Not more than 35 years of age at the time of application
  • Unemployed graduate with no fixed income; OR employee in the private sector; OR lecturer in a private institution of higher education (IPTS)
  • Not a recipient of any scholarship or financial aid (other than allowance as a graduate Researcher Assistant) for studies of the same level
  • Not bonded by any parties during sponsorship period (eg from previous scholarships)
  • Is currently pursuing or has obtained admission to full-time postgraduate studies at an institution of higher education.
  • Malaysian citizen
  • Not more than 45 years of age at the time of application
  • Obtained admission or is already pursuing studies at an institution of higher education
  • Not a recipient of any scholarship or financial aid (other than allowance as a graduate Researcher Assistant)
  • Is currently pursuing or intends to pursue full-time postgraduate studies.
  • Malaysian citizens who are executives currently working in industry or private companies (inclusive of employees of GLC status companies) who are directly involved in research and development, innovation and in increasing the competitiveness of the industry. Employees of government agencies, related bodies and government research institutions are not eligible.
  • Obtained admission into or is already pursuing studies at an institution of higher education
  • Not a recipient of any scholarship or financial aid (other than allowance as a graduate Researcher Assistant)
  • Is currently pursuing or intends to pursue full-time postgraduate studies.
Academic requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or government-recognised equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.75<
  • Master’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 OR
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.50
  • Relevant working experience that is accepted by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA).
  • Master’s degree or equivalent with minimum CGPA of 3.0
     OR
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with minimum CGPA of 3.50
     OR
  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum CGPA of 2.75 and at least five (5) years of relevant working experience that is accepted by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA).
Value of scholarship
  • Study fees of up to RM10,000 for 24 months paid directly to the institution
  • Tuition fees (up to RM24,000 maximum for a period of not more than 48 months)
  • Up to a maximum of RM50,000 for a study period of not more than 48 months.

  • Sponsorship recipients and a guarantor must enter into a contract with the government in agreement to complete their studies during the sponsorship period.
  • Students will be required to reimburse the sponsorship if they a) drop out or postpone their studies without permission b) are expelled by the institution of higher education due to disciplinary problems / academic weakness or inability to keep to the rules of the institution c) failed in their studies
  • Recipients will be bonded under a contract and required to work in Malaysia or any organisation that has beneficial links to Malaysia for five (5) years.

Application
  • Application is open year-round until 2015. Sponsorships will be offered in four (4) phases in January, April, July and October every year.
  • Applicants are required to apply online via the MyBrain15 website. 
  • Prior to applying, applicants must obtain an offer letter from a recognised institution of higher education and prepare a research proposal.
  • Selection for recipients will be made by the selection committee chosen by the Ministry of Higher Education.
